Ten 90-minute sessions in small groups.
Thoroughly review math, reading and vocabulary
skills, and learn powerful test-taking
strategies. Recommended for students who want
comprehensive preparation for the SSAT.
Homework is required and is an integral
and crucial part of the program. Typically,
students are assigned 1 to 2 hours of homework
for each session. The homework gives students
an opportunity to practice the skills and
test-taking strategies learned in the
sessions.

Art and Poetry
(Grades K – 8)
Students will write
poems and create works of art using collage,
painting, drawing, pastels, and batik related
to their words. This dual process of
words and art enhances the students
understanding of the metaphors in their
lives.

compose a story then illustrate their picture
book. These books make a wonderful

compose well-developed, organized, and
coherent cause and effect, narrative,
comparison and contrast, descriptive, and
definition paragraphs using Na'au's own
RIPPING strategy of brainstorming.

foundation to other genre. Poetic devices
and mechanics will be introduced.

Students will learn strategies to decipher
oftentimes unfamiliar sayings and phrases
similar to those used as prompts for the SSAT
Writing Test. They will then compose
well-developed, thought- provoking, and

sayings and phrases.

Students will read prior to the start of
the institute Steinbeck's The Red Pony,
The Pearl, and Of Mice and Men (at least
two of the three novellas) and learn
expository writing skills that merge
criticism and creative writing based on
these works.

Students will compose well-developed,
thought-provoking, and interesting timed
essays using famous quotations similar to
those used as prompts for the SAT Writing
Test. Na`au provides specific strategies
to help students write outstanding essays that

writing skills.

into libraries across America.

students to prepare for the SSAT.
